Scientific Meeting in Athens, Greece, 8-10 April 2024

The final scientific meeting of the SyMat action will take place on 8-10 April 2024 in Athens, Greece, hosted by the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF), one of the largest research centers in Greece founded in 1958, and organized by the Theoretical and Physical Chemistry Institute (TPCI) of NHRF. It will be held in hybrid form. During these dates, a Management Committee meeting will also take place.

City venue

Athens is the capital and the most populated city of Greece. it is one of the most historical cities in the world, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years. Classical Athens acted as a center for democracy, the arts, education, and philosophy in ancient Greece. It is often regarded as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. The historical heritage of the city is manifested by ancient monuments and works of art, the most famous of all being the Parthenon. The city also retains Roman, Byzantine and a smaller number of Ottoman monuments. Athens is also home to several museums and cultural institutions, such as the National Archeological Museum, featuring the world’s largest collection of ancient Greek antiquities, the Acropolis Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art, the Benaki Museum, and the Byzantine and Christian Museum. Today, Athens is one of the biggest economic centers in Southeastern Europe. Its port, Piraeus, is both the 2nd busiest passenger port in Europe, and the 13th largest container port in the world.

Meeting venue

The SyMat meeting will be held in the premises of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, 48 Vassileos Constantinou Avenue, 11635, Athens. The building has two entrances: the first is located on Vassileos Constantinou Ave. and the second on Vassileos Georgiou Str.

Reaching the venue

FROM THE AIRPORT: From Athens International Airport (ATH) – “Eleftherios Venizelos” you can take either the metro (underground) or a bus to the city center. Both metro and bus stop just outside the Institute (5 min walk).

  • Take metro line 3 (blue) and get off at Evangelismos station. Exit towards Rizari street. Duration ~35min. The fare costs 9€.
  • Alternatively, take bus “X95” and stop at “Evangelismos Hospital”. Duration ~60min. The fare costs 4.5€.
